Job description

Context

As part of your portfolio as Manager: Wallet Analytics, you will be:

Manager: Wallet Analytics will be responsible, through effective collaboration with teams across Africa and Middle East and through the use of data, insights and advanced analytics for Group Fintech, Analytical solutions, lead data-driven analytics to optimize digital wallet performance and revenue growth.

Manager: Wallet Analytics be responsible for analysing wallet transactions, user behaviour, payment trends, and operational performance to drive actionable insights that improve customer experience, retention, and monetization.

The person will be responsible for pricing/tariffs, for wallet consumers and agents. Also be responsible for business planning and wallet projections

This role requires a deep understanding of fintech ecosystems, including digital payments, P2P transfers, merchant transactions, and financial inclusion strategies. You will collaborate closely with product, marketing, finance, risk, and technology teams to develop data-driven strategies that enhance wallet adoption and transaction efficiency.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in data analytics, business intelligence, and fintech payments, with expertise in SQL, Python, or R, as well as experience using BI tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Looker. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced fintech environment, leveraging data to shape the future of digital payments and financial services.

Strategy Development and Implementation

  • Provide insights, recommendations to business stakeholders after being involved in intensive analysis by leveraging advanced statistical techniques, to produce solutions to business problems.
  • Deliver analytic insights and recommendations in succinct and compelling presentations for internal and external customers and an executive audience.

Operational Delivery

Data Mart Development and Maintenance:

  • Design and maintain data marts to support analytics and reporting.
  • Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from various sources into structured formats suitable for analysis.
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy.

Advanced Analytics:

  • Stay abreast of the latest industry standards for advanced data analytics tools & technologies.
  • Analyse business problems with one’s discipline and question assumptions to help the business identify root cause.
  • Support business by providing reporting insights and analytics timeously.
  • Analyze financial and non-financial data to identify trends, behaviors and patterns to help deliver meaningful insights to business and be able to prescribe recommendations.
  • Use advanced analytics methodologies to solve business problems

Wallet Analysis:

  • Analyze digital wallet transactions, including deposits, withdrawals, peer-to-peer (P2P) transfers, bill payments, merchant and agents payments to identify trends, pain points, and opportunities.
  • Conduct user segmentation to understand high-value customers, dormant users, and churned users to develop targeted engagement strategies.
  • Perform cohort analysis to track customer retention and lifetime value (LTV).
  • Responsible for pricing/tariffs, for wallet consumers and agents.
  • Responsible for business planning and wallet projections

Transaction & Revenue Insights:

  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly active users (DAU, WAU, MAU) to assess wallet adoption and engagement.
  • Analyze revenue streams, including transaction fees, interchange revenue, and commission-based earnings.
  • Identify factors affecting gross transaction value (GTV) and frequency of transactions across different user segments.
  • Work with finance teams to forecast wallet revenue growth and identify revenue leakages.

Data Governance and Quality Assurance:

  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to ensure high-quality datasets for analysis.
  • Collaborate with IT and data governance teams to maintain compliance with data privacy and security standards.

Reporting and Visualization:

  • Extract meaning from and interpret large sets of structured and unstructured data to deliver high quality reporting frameworks for business consumption.
  • Develop interactive dashboards and reports to provide actionable insights to stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand reporting requirements and deliver insights that drive informed decision-making.

Automation and Optimization:

  • Ensure all Data workflows and reporting processes are automated to improve efficiency.
  • Optimize existing data pipelines and analytics processes to enhance performance and scalability.

The “Must-haves” we look for in an incumbent

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Actuarial Science, Business Mathematics, Informatics, Engineering or related.

Experience:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in Advanced Data & Analytics
  • Strong technical skills in data manipulation, analysis, and visualization tools such as SQL, Python, R, Tableau, or Power BI.
  • Knowledge of database systems (e.g., Oracle, Teradata, or Snowflake) and cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Experience in the telecommunications/ Financial Services or Fintech Companies or related fields is a plus.
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills .
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners to achieve business objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills . Understanding emerging markets
  • At least 3 years’ experience within a non-traditional FinTech or Consumer Marketing environment
  • Experience at the management level in the financial sector
  • Willing and flexible to travel within Africa and Middle East
  • English speaker. French language being an added advantage.
