ATS Client in Johannesburg, Gauteng is seeking a Manager Software Engineering to lead a skilled team building digital and innovative solutions using Azure, ML, AI, RPA, SharePoint, and data analytics.

You will establish an agile delivery environment, oversee design, development, testing, and deployment, ensure security and scalability, and mentor junior developers while engaging with analysts, PMs and executives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years in a software development role with hands-on coding experience.

Your responsibilities

The Africa Assurance Innovation and Digital team is looking to hire a skilled Manager Software Engineering to build tailored digital and innovative solutions for our Assurance business. These solutions encompass a range of smart technologies such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA), SharePoint, Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics, with a strong focus on delivering scalable, secure, cloud‑native solutions on Microsoft Azure.

You will be responsible for the setup of an agile delivery environment. This role requires you to perform the design, development, testing, implementation and support of these innovative solutions. You will also be responsible for writing and modifying code, debugging software, and overseeing a team of junior developers.

• Working with Business Analysts, Junior Developers, Product Managers and other cross‑functional resources to define and deliver business affecting projects.
• Directing software programming and documentation development.
• Project Management and proficiency in delivery and DevOps tools such as Azure DevOps (including CI/CD pipelines), Jira and Trello.
• Designing, implementing and governing cloud‑native architectures on Microsoft Azure, ensuring best practices in security, scalability, performance, and cost optimisation.
• Driving the adoption of Azure‑based services and cloud‑first, serverless architectures (e.g. Azure Functions, App Services, Logic Apps) to support efficient and scalable solution delivery.
• Test, maintain and recommend improvements to ensure strong functionality and optimisation of existing solutions.
• Provide guidance on process design and resolve complex technical design issues.
• Create technical and process documentation for reference and reporting.
• Produce clean, efficient code based on specifications.
• Support the launch and implementation of solutions as well as providing post‑implementation support in resolving any potential issues to ensure smooth business operations.
• Work with team members to conduct root cause analysis of issues, review new and existing code and/or perform unit testing.
• Testing and debugging code.
• Review of code and documentation.
• Completion of governance processes.

To qualify for the role, you must have

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Software Programming or equivalent of technical work experience.
• 5+ years in a software development role.
• 2+ of the years experienced leading a high‑performing development team of 4+ people.
• Strong hands‑on experience designing, developing and deploying solutions on Microsoft Azure.
• Practical experience with key Azure services such as Azure Functions/App Services, Azure SQL or other data services, Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), and integration technologies (e.g. APIs, Logic Apps) is highly advantageous.
• Experience using Azure DevOps for work item tracking, source control and CI/CD pipeline implementation.
• Experience working on a variety of software development projects.
• Ability to drive technical and operational excellence, pushing innovation with security, reliability and quality.
• Experience of 3+ years of delivering in an agile delivery environment as part of software delivery.
• Experience using project management tools such as Azure DevOps.
• Comfortable communicating with Junior Developers, Business Analysts and Project Managers and Executive team.
