Job description

As Manager SIB Projects, you will provide services as required, and your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Safety, Health, and Environment
  2. Leverage advanced industry knowledge and experience of best practices to establish a solid foundation of embedded safety in StayInBusiness projects aligned with Anglo American and industry standards.
  3. Performance and Delivery
  4. Ensure SIB Project alignment with business strategy to contribute to achieving outcomes.
  5. Align SIB Projects with Group on Mining Strategy as they relate to RDPs and LOAPs.
  6. Influence, collaborate, and align with Mining / AS&R / Growth Projects on opportunity identification (ensuring robust handover points).
  7. Collaborate with Growth Projects on various project phases.
  8. Rank and prioritize all Projects (pulling relevant support from the Group as required and being the critical interface between the Group and the site).
  9. Lead the SIB business providing strategic direction and leadership.
  10. Establish and communicate an unobstructed vision for the SIB function.
  11. Refine and deliver an effective and efficient SIB project function that supports all operations.
  12. Provide effective leadership and management of cross-functional teams.
  13. Drive project teams to achieve objectives outlined in the project charter and align with Anglo American values.
  14. Project Planning and Management:
  15. Approve integrated cross-functional Project Plans in alignment with Anglo American standards.
  16. Ensure alignment of plans with business objectives.
  17. Oversee the study of alternative project options.
  18. Support the selection of options that best meet business requirements.
  19. Ensure the delivery of detailed engineering definitions aligned with project scope and business objectives. Direct output, own decision rights, managerial authority, and execute decision rights and executive authority in this process.
  20. Align, incentivize, and manage Owner teams, EPCMs, and other stakeholders.
  21. Track and ensure compliance with Project Plans, exercising decision rights and managerial authority.
  22. Manage the overall delivery of projects to defined engineering standards, scope, schedule, and costs.
  23. Exercise decision rights and managerial authority to ensure project success.
  24. Provide support, advice, and oversight for operational excellence to ensure customer satisfaction.
  25. Identify, implement, and provide technical advice, support, and reviews to various project teams where required to ensure the achievement of project objectives.
  26. Establish a centre of excellence for SIB projects.
  27. Provide technical consulting to projects and operations.
  28. Implement benchmarking and reconciliation processes.
  29. Drive and verify the documented risk assessment process from the project/business level to construction safety.
  30. Implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential issues.
  31. Transparent Reporting:
  32. Ensure transparent reporting of progress.
  33. Implement QA processes for data collection to maintain accuracy and reliability.
  34. Analyse and interpret the root cause of project progress variances.
  35. Implement corrective measures based on analysis outcomes.
  36. Budget and Cost Control Management:
  37. Manage the functions' expenditures within the approved budget to ensure effective cost control and savings.
  38. People and Teams:
  39. Establish a purpose-led, high-performing culture of excellence that cultivates inclusivity and diversity, creating a highly skilled and experienced mining professional team that enables mine and business performance.
  40. Compliance:
  41. Take a proactive approach to guarantee compatibility between external and internal requirements, establish appropriate governance protocols, delegate accountabilities, conduct thorough investigations into incidents, and continually monitor rehabilitation activities within the specific discipline.
  42. Authorities:
  43. Managerial Authority: Manage the SIB team.
  44. Advisory Authority: Advice to Exco, Operation GMs.
  45. Auditing Authority: Has auditing authority over SIB projects.

This role is in the Projects & Development at a Band 5 level, reporting to the Head of Projects.

Qualifications:

  • Relevant honours degree in Project Management or equivalent on NQF8
  • SA Driver's License Code B

Experience:

  • 8-10 years of relevant experience in project management.
  • Extensive knowledge of mining project development and operations.
  • Extensive operational and project knowledge of large capital projects across global mining businesses.
  • Knowledge of how to deal with third parties (e.g., contractors, infrastructure operators, etc.).
  • Knowledge of leading multiple projects, preferably emphasizing Iron Ore.
  • Knowledgeable in mentoring junior/mid-level managers towards achieving organizational objectives.
  • Demonstrated track record of interfacing with and influencing senior executives.
  • Good understanding of mining and extractive industries.
  • Wide knowledge base across a variety of commodity groups.
  • Demonstrated experience in being involved in and preferably leading business improvement programs and project management.
