Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the Senior Manager: Litigation and Mediation, the successful incumbent is accountable for managing and reporting on operational litigation issues concerning constitutionality.
The incumbent will support the Senior Manager on all litigation-related matters aligned with the strategic objectives of the organisation as determined by the Board. Key Performance Areas
Litigation Management
- Manage the implementation of the overall litigation strategy.
- Institute and defend litigation actions for and against the RAF.
- Manage and monitor the litigation risk of the RAF.
- Manage referred claims litigation to determine if a settlement can be reached or if the matter should proceed to court.
- Manage the high court and magistrate court attorneys, as well as other service providers supporting the litigation unit.
- Provide oversight to ensure attorneys perform their roles effectively and efficiently.
Administration of Non-Litigious Matters
- Approve requests to appoint and instruct assessors and expert witnesses.
- Guide in recommending settlements.
Mediation Management
- Manage communication between disputing parties to guide them to mutual agreement.
- Conduct introductory meetings to educate parties about arbitration.
- Handle procedural matters in dispute resolution, including time requirements and witnesses.
Policy Review and Implementation
- Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and processes.
- Stay updated on effective policy and practice execution strategies.
Reporting
- Prepare and submit regulation reports and other documentation to update management and inform decisions.
- Develop reports, policies, and procedures aligned with RAF's strategy.
- Create functional reporting systems for management and performance tracking.
Stakeholder Management
- Manage communication and relationships with internal and external parties, including the Judiciary and legal counsel.
People Management
- Sourcing, developing, and retaining a high-performance team.
- Implement people management processes to address workplace conflicts and deviations from standards.
- Allocate, motivate, and evaluate team members to achieve their goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Law or equivalent; postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
- Mediation certificate/course is an advantage.
- 6-8 years’ experience in a legal environment, including 3 years in personal injury litigation and 2 years in management/supervision.

- Knowledge of litigation management, relevant legislation, court processes, and legal procedures.
