Manager: IT Governance and Compliance

Who are we?

Sanlam Group Technology is responsible for the provision of a digitally enabled technology service as a group COE, drive business and transformation and provide group-wide digital and data architecture. We operate the various technology platforms and shared services, ensure Cyber and Information Security resilience, and act as technology governance and risk orchestrator for technology across Sanlam.

What will you do?

The Manager: IT & Data Governance and Compliance is responsible for ensuring that the organization's IT and data management systems, processes, and strategies adhere to established governance frameworks, regulatory requirements and industry best practices. This role involves developing and maintaining robust IT and data governance policies, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements, ensuring management of data and compliance risks, driving continuous improvement in IT governance practices, maturity, and ensuring alignment with business objectives. Their position serves as a key liaison between Sanlam Group Technology and Sanlam Clusters ensuring that governance and compliance efforts effectively support overall Sanlam Group’s goals. The Manager: IT & Data Governance and Compliance will also lead efforts to ensure proper management, protection, and utilisation of Sanlam data is a strategic asset. The role promotes a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and ensures that governance practices support the organizational business objective while maximizing the value of IT and data assets.
In addition to technical responsibilities, the role includes managing and mentoring a team of IT Governance, Data Governance and Compliance professionals.

Qualification

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science
2. A Data Science or Compliance Degree would be advantageous

Working knowledge and experience in any of the following Professional Certifications

1. COBIT
2. ITIL
3. CISA
4. CISM
5. CRISC
6. Cloud Foundation certificate
7. DAMA DMBOK
8. Certified Data Management Professional

Experience

1. 8 years of experience in IT Governance and Compliance roles
2. Proven experience in leading IT Governance initiatives within a complex organisation
3. In-depth knowledge of IT Governance Frameworks
4. In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements applicable to the Financial Services
5. Familiarity with Privacy Laws POPIA, GDPR
6. Familiarity with ISO 27001, NIST or equivalent frameworks
7. Proven experience in leading large scale IT and Data Governance and compliance initiatives in a group or multinational environment
8. Extensive knowledge of emerging technologies and their impact on governance and compliance, including AI, Cloud Computing, data privacy and cybersecurity.
9. Experience working in highly regulated industries (e.g. Finance, healthcare or telecommunications)
