Manager: Facilities - Africa

Role Outline

The role is responsible for activities related to warehouses and offices' layout, including installation and maintenance of electrical systems, fire prevention systems, automation equipment, shelving/racking units, heating and cooling systems, hydraulic ramps, and material handling equipment leased onsite. It also manages controlled temperature systems for specific goods (e.g., pharma), involving preparation of technical specifications, metric calculations, and cost evaluations. The role oversees third-party suppliers, site inspections, and ensures compliance with process and site requirements. Collaboration with Real Estate for fit-outs and building release, and managing technical activities and maintenance are key. The role involves direct and indirect management of technical staff, including Material Handling Equipment champions, and close cooperation with various functions such as Procurement, Finance, Digitalization, and Landlord relations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Site Facility Management Team.
  • Prepare and check maintenance contracts.
  • Act as a technical consultant for needs, problems, and feasibility studies.
  • Coach BU staff on installation and maintenance of technical plant.
  • Review warehouse/office layouts and drawings, ensuring compliance with laws and standards.
  • Analyze and optimize technical systems’ implementation and maintenance.
  • Guide procurement on tenders, supplier selection, and SLAs.
  • Support risk management and ensure preventative maintenance plans are in place.
  • Assist in site inspections, construction surveys, and negotiations with landlords.
  • Manage technical contracts, suppliers, and performance evaluations.
  • Implement energy-saving initiatives and communicate technological advancements.
  • Participate in internal boards related to energy and technical management.
  • Build relationships with landlords and ensure lease commitments are met.
  • Ensure SOPs and WIs are followed; conduct property assessments.
  • Collaborate during audits with institutions and fire brigades.
  • Manage MHE suppliers, including escalations and performance reviews.
  • Identify process improvements for material handling equipment.
  • Serve as technical interface for SHEQ/BCM/Facility Management.
Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Degree in Engineering (Essential).
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety & Environmental regulations.
  • Ability to review lease agreements.
  • Experience in Civil/Plant Engineering, warehouse projects, and facilities management tools.

Experience:

  • Technical background in logistics buildings.
  • Experience as technical supervisor, maintenance supervisor, or designer.
  • Ability to manage multicultural teams and drive change.
