Job description

Primary Purpose: The role is responsible for managing the Bank's domestic payment value chain to ensure operational compliance with industry standards by representing the Bank in Payments industry forums, specifically for domestic payments.

The focus is to ensure that the organisation's payment offerings are innovative, differentiated, and conform to industry requirements.

Interpret strategy for payment innovation and commercialisation for the Bank.

Qualifications

• NQF 6 in Finance / Economics
• PASA certification in Payments
• Bachelor's degree in Commerce (advantage) – NQF 7

Experience

• 10 years in banking within a payments and settlements environment.
• Extensive understanding of payment rails responsible for low-value payments.
• Experience in dealing with PCH, other banks, and PAS.
• Extensive knowledge of our internal product catalog.
• Strong knowledge in handling payments-related interbank queries.

Technical Competencies

• National Payment System (NPS) framework.
• PASA / PIB knowledge.
• PCH rules and regulations.
• Bankserv's clearing methods.
• Payment rails for low-value payments (EFT / RTC / RPP).
• Settlement methods.
• RTC / EFT / RPP product knowledge.

• Card & ATM payment queries.

Financial Management

• Ensure all payments are compliant with regulations and assist in documenting and managing risks.
• Monitor and manage operational costs monthly to stay within budget.
• Manage the cost of each payment type to keep it as low as possible.
• Manage financial SLAs with external suppliers.
• Provide input to the Pricing Committee for adequate cost recovery.
• Assist in compiling budgets and business plans for Payments.

Client Experience

• Oversee the Electronic Payments Support / Card Operations Team and card account management activities related to transactional banking products.
• Coordinate with Card Division for strategic alliance, virtual channels, and product support.

Operational Excellence

• Provide expert advice to ensure optimal development and management of payments and client relationships.
• Assist in building the new payments utility, including process mapping and customer experience assessment.
• Ensure industry rules are correctly interpreted and implemented.
• Manage payment streams according to defined standards for service quality, responsiveness, and stakeholder satisfaction.
