Manager : Commercial Property Underwriting

Our client, one of South Africa’s leading general insurers is seeking a Commercial Property Underwriting Manager to join their dynamic team in the Commercial Underwriting Department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the profitability and growth of the company’s Commercial Property Portfolio, while adhering to the risk appetite determined by the Board. You will be required to manage a team of senior property underwriters and develop underwriting skills within the business. The role will report to the Head : Commercial Underwriting.

Responsibilities :

• Ensure the business’s Commercial Property Portfolio achieves profit and growth targets within risk appetite
• Manage a team of senior property underwriters and develop underwriting skills within the business
• Overall responsibility for the business’s Commercial property portfolio with regards to product, rate and rule
• Create appropriate underwriting rules to balance customer’s needs with the business risk appetite
• Research and development of new Commercial insurance covers and products
• Develop rating tools / solutions for business partners
• Manage the company’s surveying function and property underwriting team
• Interact and assist Brokers and Partners as needed with regards to Property Underwriting queries
• Provide specific support to our Segment Solutions teams

Qualifications and Experience :

• Bachelor’s degree or relevant insurance related diploma
• At least 10 years experience within a Commercial Underwriting environment
• Proven track record of at least 5 years management of a Specialist Underwriting team
• Knowledge of the relevant legislation and building regulations
