What will you do?

Job Description

The role of the Reinsurance Claims and Contract Wording Manager is to:

1. Oversee and manage the processing, validation, and recovery of reinsurance claims from various Santam Business Units.
2. Ensure reinsurance claims recoveries are handled efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with reinsurance treaty coverages.
3. Review and assess the Santam Group reinsurance treaty coverages.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

1. Review and assess reinsurance treaty wordings for approximately 50 treaties.
2. Review direct policy wordings with Business Units to ensure alignment with treaty coverages.
3. Review broker Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in collaboration with Group Legal and Compliance to ensure they reflect the trading relationship.
4. Manage changes to treaty wordings, endorsements, and subjectivities to protect Santam’s reinsurance coverage.
5. Analyze and communicate trends in local and international (re)insurance law.
6. Draft and implement claims recovery philosophy frameworks, including mandates and thresholds.
7. Review and assess reinsurance claims for accuracy and completeness.
8. Conduct investigations into complex or disputed claims and collaborate with relevant parties.
9. Negotiate recoveries with reinsurers and brokers.
10. Maintain accurate claims documentation.
11. Prepare reports on claims activity, trends, and financial analysis.
12. Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
13. Identify and implement process improvements for operational efficiency.

What will make you successful in this role?

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in commerce or related field; Law degree is advantageous.
2. Minimum 5 years of reinsurance claims experience in a leadership role.
3. At least 3 years of in-depth experience with reinsurance contract wording.
4. Professional qualifications in (re)insurance, such as FCII or FIISA.
