What will you do?

Job Description

The role of the Reinsurance Claims and Contract Wording Manager is to:

  1. Oversee and manage the processing, validation, and recovery of reinsurance claims from various Santam Business Units.
  2. Ensure reinsurance claim recoveries are handled efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with treaty coverages.
  3. Review and assess the Santam Group reinsurance treaty coverages.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Review and assess approximately 50 reinsurance treaty wordings for coverage.
  • Review direct policy wordings to ensure alignment with treaty coverages.
  • Review broker Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with Group Legal and Compliance to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage changes to treaty wordings, endorsements, and subjectivities to protect Santam’s coverage.
  • Analyze and communicate trends in local and international (re)insurance law.
  • Draft and implement claims recovery frameworks, including mandates and thresholds.
  • Review and assess reinsurance claims for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct investigations into complex or disputed claims.
  • Negotiate recoveries with reinsurers and brokers.
  • Maintain accurate claims documentation.
  • Prepare reports on claims activity, trends, and financial analysis.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.

What will make you successful in this role?

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce or related field (Law degree advantageous)
  • Minimum 5 years of reinsurance claims experience in a leadership role
  • At least 3 years of in-depth experience in reinsurance contract wording
  • Professional qualification in (re)insurance (e.g., FCII, FIISA)
