Job description

MANAGER C&I ENGINEERING

Location: Rivonia, Johannesburg

To act as a technical leader, expert, and mentor in the C&I department. This includes technical responsibility for the department's input related to proposals and contracts. Ensure that designs and technical solutions are produced professionally, cost-effectively, and to high standards, with engineering integrity and compliance with legal and industry requirements.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Technical management of the Control & Instrumentation Engineering Department.
  2. Oversee the design and approval of C&I engineering technical documents.
  3. Facilitate liaison between project teams, clients, authorities, and licensors, acting as a catalyst to anticipate and resolve issues.
  4. Prepare project standards, engineering, and technical specifications.
  5. Report project progress to the Head of Engineering.
  6. Assist in manpower planning and recruitment of C&I engineers.
  7. Develop new ideas to enhance design, services, policies, and procedures.
  8. Execute cost-effective estimates for professional services related to C&I engineering.
  9. Execute C&I scope on EPC and EPCM projects.
  10. Support transformation initiatives and liaise with other high-value centres within the group.
  11. Manage skills matrix and training needs of the department.
  12. Ensure deliverables meet quality requirements and applicable standards.
  13. Provide technical leadership and mentorship.
  14. Manage department within approved budgets and schedules.
  15. Recruitment, training, and development of staff.

Minimum requirements include:

  1. BSc/BEng in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
  2. Minimum 10 years' relevant design experience, preferably in Oil and Gas environment.
  3. Proficiency in control systems, instrumentation, and control system design.
  4. Experience with SIL verification, functional safety, and related software tools.
  5. Project site experience, including commissioning and construction support.
  6. Proficiency in MS Office and relevant engineering software.

The ideal candidate should possess strong managerial skills and be familiar with NEC standards, with a focus on quality and safety standards compliance.
