Job description

We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented, and commercially minded Management Accountant to join our team. This role will be responsible for analysing financial performance, managing the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting functions, producing management accounts, and assisting with preparing the company’s financial reports for external audits. The ideal candidate will have experience in both bookkeeping and accounting, with a strong understanding of financial reporting and internal controls.

This role is also ideal for someone who is not only strong with numbers but also thrives in a collaborative environment, capable of handling both the day-to-day accounting and the strategic financial management needs of the business.

The group of companies and partnerships operate predominately in ZAR but also import from China.

Key Responsibilities:

Day-to-Day Bookkeeping:

  • Transaction Recording: Accurately record all financial transactions in the company’s accounting system, including sales, purchases, payments, receipts, and other financial activities.
  • Bank Reconciliations: Perform daily or weekly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy between the company’s books and bank statements.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process vendor invoices and customer invoices. Follow up on overdue accounts and assist with collections as needed.
  • Expense Tracking: Track and categorize company expenses, ensuring all receipts and invoices are properly recorded and filed.

Management Accounting:

  • Monthly Management Accounts: Prepare monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss (P&L), Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements. Provide insightful analysis to support business decision-making.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, tracking performance against budget throughout the year.
  • Variance Analysis: Conduct variance analysis of actual vs. budgeted financial results and provide explanations for discrepancies.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present monthly financial reports to management, highlighting key financial performance metrics and trends.
  • Stock Reporting

External Audit Preparation:

  • Audit Readiness: Ensure that company financial records are accurate, up-to-date, and ready for external audits.
  • Documentation: Organize and maintain supporting documentation for financial transactions, ensuring it meets auditing standards.
  • Liaison with Auditors: Assist external auditors during the annual audit process, providing requested information and resolving any discrepancies that may arise.
  • Tax Compliance: Ensure that financial records are aligned with tax laws and regulations, assisting with tax filings and returns.

General Accounting Support:

  • Internal Controls: Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, maintaining strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Compliance: Stay updated with accounting regulations, tax laws, and industry best practices to ensure compliance with all applicable standards.
  • Ad-hoc Tasks: Perform ad-hoc accounting tasks and projects as needed by the management team.
