Job description

A large and prominent group of companies is seeking to employ a Management Accountant at their offices in Cape Town. This established and diverse group has interests in the Engineering, Construction, Fabrication, Manufacturing, Logistics, and Property sectors. They are looking for an experienced financial professional with an inquisitive, dynamic, and analytical nature to take charge of this role. The ideal candidate should be proactive, hardworking, forward-thinking, and have long-term goals to progress within the business.

The candidate should have completed SAICA, CIMA, or SAIPA articles and be registered or eligible to register with a professional finance regulatory body. Post-article experience in a similar role is highly desirable, especially in manufacturing, engineering, or related industries. Experience with Syspro or similar ERP systems, as well as working within a group structure managing multiple entities and intercompany loan accounts, will be advantageous.

The Management Accountant will oversee the finance function of the group, manage accounting and admin staff, and report to the Group Financial Manager and the Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including variance reports for the MD.
• Assist with budget preparation.
• Control general ledger activities, including accruals, provisions, depreciation, and journals.
• Manage cash flow.
• Review bank and suspense reconciliations and prepare other general ledger reconciliations.
• Coordinate the preparation of annual audits, including accounting packs, financial statements, and lead schedules.
• Manage Syspro modules: accounts payable, receivable, inventory, WIP, and general ledger to trial balance.
• Set up and create users, product classes, warehouses, client groupings, and costings in the accounting system.
• Administer vendor contracts, lease agreements, and equipment rentals.
• Supervise and train accounting staff.
• Ensure deadlines and tasks are met by staff.
• Manage monthly salaries, weekly wage reconciliations, and benefits payments.
• Assist with BBBEE administration.
• Compile annual financial statements.
• Handle statutory tasks: VAT, PAYE, SDL, and tax return submissions.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
• Professional qualifications such as AGA(SA), PA(SA), CA(SA), or CIMA preferred.
• Completed SAIPA, SAICA, or CIMA articles.
• Post-article experience in a similar role is advantageous.
• Minimum of 5 years’ accounting and finance experience.
• Experience with Syspro or similar ERP software.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Industry experience in manufacturing, engineering, construction, or related sectors.
• Experience working within a group with multiple entities.

Remuneration

• R480,000 to R660,000 per annum CTC, depending on experience.
