The Maintenance Technician is responsible for conducting preventative and corrective maintenance on refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical systems within the cold storage facility.
This role ensures the continuous operation of critical equipment and infrastructure to support the safe and efficient storage of fruit exports.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily checks and inspections of critical equipment, including refrigeration units, electrical systems, mobile racking, and infrastructure, to identify issues and ensure optimal functioning.
- Conduct routine maintenance on refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and cooling tunnels.
- Calibrate temperature probes to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical faults on facility equipment like conveyor systems and forklifts.
- Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, and other infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards such as HACCP, ISO, and food safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and report major faults to the Maintenance Manager.
- Assist in emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with operations to ensure maintenance activities do not disrupt workflows.
- Support planning and execution of major equipment overhauls and upgrades.
- Manage stock levels of maintenance supplies and spare parts.
- Follow health and safety policies and participate in safety training.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or trade certifications in CO2 refrigeration systems.
- SAQCC gas handling license (Cat. A).
- 2-5 years of experience as a refrigeration technician, preferably in cold storage or food production environments.
- Experience with large-scale mechanical and electrical systems, refrigeration, and HVAC.
- Knowledge of facility maintenance, diagnostics, and repair techniques.
Technical Skills
- Strong refrigeration system knowledge.
- Electrical troubleshooting and wiring skills.
- Experience with CMMS, PLCs, and mechanical equipment.
- Welding and fabrication skills are advantageous.
Beneficial Qualifications
- Refrigeration Technician Certification for CO2 plants.
- Experience with Danfoss controls.
- Safety certifications such as OHSAS, First Aid/CPR.

- Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies.
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours.
- Valid driver’s license (preferred).
Working Conditions
- Work in cold storage environments and at heights up to 10m.
- High-risk areas with moving machinery and electrical components.
- Physical demands such as lifting and bending.
- Flexibility for emergency repairs or project deadlines.
