Job description

Introduction

Our client in the automotive industry is currently seeking a Maintenance Specialist (Plant) to join their team in Durban.

This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive salary and benefits. As a Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of all plant equipment.

This includes conducting regular inspections, identifying and troubleshooting issues, and performing repairs and maintenance as needed.

You will also coordinate with other departments to schedule maintenance and ensure minimal disruption to production.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Maintenance Management: Supervise the work unit to achieve objectives. Determine resources (labour and materials) required and allocate overtime. Analyze and interpret Planned Maintenance Reports (Hours per department, hours per Artisan, etc.) and Breakdown Reports (Manufacturing downtime, top-10, etc.). Diagnose plant and equipment problems (fault finding) and identify opportunities for modification, upgrade, improvement, or replacement of equipment and spares. Maintain register of electrical hardware and backups of software.
  2. Maintenance Planning: Compile and supervise the Preventive Maintenance Programme according to the requirements. Maintain and update maintenance tasks lists, critical spares, and spares lists.
  3. Maintenance Process: Schedule and interpret maintenance instructions, plan work, approve spare parts requisitions, supervise breakdown repairs, and escalate issues as needed. Inform management of serious breakdowns or potential failures.
  4. Project Initiation and Planning: Contribute to project scope definition, estimate costs, and monitor budgets. Schedule and evaluate project activities and schedules.
  5. Project Management: Manage engineering projects, contribute to risk management, supervise project teams, and ensure quality standards.
  6. Project Administration: Support project documentation, organize meetings, supervise procurement, and manage project documentation.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
  • School leaving certificate.
  • Trade-tested Millwright, Fitter, or Electrician.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar role, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • PLC and project management experience.
  • Willingness to work excess hours when required.
