Job Description

County Fair Maintenance Planner

County Fair, a division of Astral Operations Limited, offers an opportunity for a Maintenance Planner based at County Fair within the Commercial Division in the Western Cape.

The purpose of this position is to ensure the implementation, maintenance, and integrity of plant asset care management principles by effectively utilizing resources through daily planning, scheduling, and execution of maintenance plans. The role involves capturing, completing, costing, and analyzing all service orders, as well as resolving issues on engineering service orders.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Creating, scheduling, and issuing service orders for preventative maintenance.
  2. Analyzing historical proposals related to expenditure and equipment lifespan, including the 20 Keys methodology.
  3. Identifying problems or potential problems and facilitating problem-solving efforts.
  4. Administering a gap list and identifying equipment suitable for design-out maintenance.
  5. Planning maintenance and projects, including scheduling shutdowns and tracking progress.
  6. Participating in job observations, identifying follow-on work, and raising relevant work orders.
  7. Capturing data, analyzing, and generating asset management reports.
  8. Analyzing equipment to determine failure causes and maintenance tasks.
  9. Maintaining system integrity through auditing, coaching, and ensuring correct system usage by the team.
  10. Publishing various plant standard reports such as thermal inspections, maintenance costs, and downtime reports.
  11. Analyzing service orders and feedback for abnormalities, and generating service orders for planned maintenance and projects.
  12. Costing all planned maintenance and project job cards.
  13. Creating, scheduling, and issuing service orders, and analyzing expenditure history.
  14. Logging plant modifications, filing documentation, and capturing purchase requisitions.
  15. Reviewing maintenance documentation, updating engineering checklists, and writing CAPEX reports.
  16. Developing 'Management of Change' documents as required.
  17. Generating weekly and monthly reports on maintenance activities.
  18. Establishing and implementing management information systems, liaising with contractors and suppliers, and coordinating with production management.
  19. Issuing work permits, verifying jobs, conducting inspections, and assisting with maintenance tasks and projects, including weekend work if necessary.

The minimum requirements for the position are:

  1. Grade 12, N6, National Diploma, or BTech in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Qualified Artisan (Electrical or Mechanical).
  3. At least 5 years post-trade experience and a minimum of 3 years planning experience.
  4. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering practices.
  5. Proficiency in MS Office and planning software such as MS Projects.
  6. Knowledge of planned maintenance programs and strong organizational skills.
  7. Awareness of safety, health, and hygiene standards, and the ability to work additional hours when required.

Due to the nature of the role, flexibility to work evenings, public holidays, or weekends is expected, and the incumbent must comply with operational requirements outside the scope of the position.
