Minimum Qualifications / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with a Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) for Factories or to be able to acquire one within 1 year from the date of appointment in this position.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the maintenance manager position in a manufacturing or related industry.
- A good knowledge of maintenance management systems and tools used to optimize
- planning, execution and monitoring of equipment performance and labour utilization.
- Specific Accountabilities
- Safe working conditions in the maintenance department.
- Reliability and life cycle costs of plant equipment.
- Meeting committed maintenance budget.
- Competence, motivation and development of the maintenance team and the promotion of communication and teamwork.
- Compliance of the maintenance team with company policies.
- Working with stores and purchasing personnel to develop spares inventory and minimum stocking levels to optimize costs and minimise the risks of stock outs of critical spares.
Duties and responsibilities (not limited to)
- Plans maintenance activities in a way that is compatible with the overall operation of the plant.
- Planning is both long term (3-Year Performance Plan and budget), or short term (monthly or weekly activities).
- Set objectives and priorities for the maintenance department in line with the plant objectives.
- Lead and coordinate the inspections, preventive, breakdowns and corrective maintenance of all plant mechanical, electrical and infrastructural equipment.
- Provides input to each function of the department toward cost budgeting, cost forecasting and control of department expenditures.
- Participate in the preparation of the long-term plan mainly in the setting of goals as well the identification and definition of projects necessary for sustainability and continuous improvement of the business performance.
- Optimising the utilization of the approved labour complement to minimise the costs through the elimination of discretionary overtime and the use of contractors.
- Monitor performance of the maintenance team through formal and informal reviews.
- Continuous improvement of the competency of the maintenance team by initiating training, coaching, counselling or disciplinary actions according to the individual performance reviews.
- Achieving full engagement of the maintenance team through delegation of responsibilities, sharing of information on the department’s goals and constraints as well as the recognition of individual and team performance.
- Addresses labour issues within the department with support of the HR functions in compliance with the company policies and the collective agreement.
- Continuously looking for better ways of working to achieve continuous improvement in equipment performance, reliability and life cycles costs.
- Develops procedures with support from the suppliers improve equipment reliability, maximize life cycle costs and minimize stores inventory.
- Performs standby duties on a rotation basis.
- Performs any other reasonable tasks when requested by Maintenance Manager.
- Adhere to the group’s health and safety rules

- Ensures the safety of laboratory equipment
- Participate in all health and safety campaigns
