Job summary

Mia Nel Associates in Durban seeks a Maintenance Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and fabrication disciplines, driving excellence in maintenance.

You will develop and implement maintenance strategies, reduce downtime, manage budgets and parts, and mentor foremen, artisans and apprentices while coordinating with engineers and production teams to achieve operational goals.

Qualifications

• Must have GCC Factories certification.
• 5-8 years maintenance experience.
• Minimum 2 years in people leadership/mentoring.
• Experience in manufacturing/mining/petrochemical plants.

A well-established manufacturing organisation based in the Durban area is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team and ensure operational excellence across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and fabrication disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Drive equipment capability, reliability, and availability through planned and preventative maintenance strategies.


• Minimise downtime by prioritising and executing maintenance activities within budget and time constraints.


• Manage materials usage, spare parts availability, and asset integrity in collaboration with planners, buyers, engineers, and production teams.


• Lead and mentor Maintenance Foremen, artisans, assistants, and apprentices, ensuring skills development and succession planning.


• Administer annual mechanical maintenance budgets, track expenditures, and source cost-effective tools and spare parts.


• Oversee engineering contractors, negotiate service agreements, and manage specialised external maintenance projects.


• Ensure compliance with statutory inspections, occupational health regulations, and workplace safety policies.


• Develop, implement, and optimise preventative and predictive maintenance programmes to extend asset lifespan.


• Provide weekly and monthly reports, statistics, and performance insights to management.


• Support project-related work, including Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements.

Requirements

• 5-8 years maintenance experience


• MUST have min 2 years experience managing a team


• MUST have experience working in the manufacturing / mining / petrochemical plant industries
