A leading company in Johannesburg is looking for a Maintenance Manager to oversee all aspects of the maintenance department. The role requires managing teams, ensuring operational efficiency, and upholding safety and quality standards. Qualified candidates should have experience in equipment automation, project management, and a relevant NQF Level 6 qualification or equivalent.

Job description

Manage all aspects of the maintenance department. This includes management of plant maintenance teams, plant maintenance costs, preventative maintenance systems and project engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities associated with this role include, but are not limited to the following :

Management of the maintenance team to ensure appropriate use of resources for all

operations. Planning and scheduling of maintenance works to ensure maximum

operational efficiency and minimize plant downtime.

Ensure all maintenance operations are conducted in a safe and controlled manner with

particular emphasis on Health and Safety, Food Safety, Hygiene, and Environmental

standards.

Promote a food safety culture.

Maintain plant safety compliance, safe standards of maintenance work, equipment

upkeep, and coordinate safe systems of work in relation to permits as required by the

company and regulatory authorities.

Management of maintenance budgets and daily maintenance costs.

Management of utilities including water and electricity in line with companys cost

saving initiatives.

Management of suppliers to ensure cost effective and timely delivery of spares and

services and to ensure work is carried out to the highest standard.

Manage preventive maintenance system to deliver an effective planned maintenance

programme that maximises equipment availability and leverages maintenance best

practices.

Advise on new projects and support overall project execution with a focus on safety,

schedule, and budget adherence while complying with good engineering practices,

company policies, regulations, and codes.

Be actively involved in lean initiatives to drive efficiencies.

Management of spare parts, stock control, and maintenance stores purchasing.

Set up of central stores.

Participate in Manufacturing / Operations meetings as required.

Facilitate regular meetings and transparent communication with site health & safety

team, site engineering, and site facilities teams.

Member of the HACCP team.

Ensure that the highest levels of service, quality and workmanship are maintained and

all required training needs for the function are met through continued team up-skilling

People management (recruitment in line with talent strategy, identify and develop

talent, develop career progression pathways (e.g., apprenticeship programmes)

Taking on the role as GMR2 for the site.

EXPERIENCE

Relevant 5 years experience in a similar role

Relevant supervisory management experience

Experience in equipment automation

Must hold appropriate educational qualifications combined with relevant automation

experience

Engineering qualification will be highly advantageous

Experience in Lean Manufacturing will be highly advantageous

Strong business knowledge and ability to work with various departments within the

organisation.

Project management skills / disciplines

FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS

Equivalent of NQF Level 6 qualification

A working knowledge of industrial refrigeration (ammonia) is preferred.

An engineering qualification will be highly advantageous

A relevant Bachelors degree will be advantageous

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE

Possess clear ability to work within the team.

Excellent Communicator with strong interpersonal skills

Highly motivated and organised with the ability to perform well in a fast-paced

manufacturing environment

Ability to manage and motivate the maintenance team while building good working

relationships across all functions

Hands-on approach to problem solving

Is approachable and enthusiastic.
