Job description

Job Title : Maintenance Manager

As a Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for leading the site Maintenance function, providing both reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance services on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure.

You will be responsible for planning, creating, overseeing scheduling, and ensuring adherence and timely completion of work carried out either by the maintenance team or contractors. You will ensure that the facilities, layout, and machinery used are in good condition and properly maintained.

This includes preventative maintenance, managing breakdowns on mechanical, electrical, and all other equipment within your scope of responsibility and qualification, including people management and budgetary/costing reporting.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Strategy and Development: Overall responsibility for all functions/activities within the Maintenance department. Evaluate challenges faced by the department, mitigate risks, and develop opportunities. Contribute to maintenance strategy and annual budget planning.
  2. Project Management: Develop project plans, communicate changes and progress, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Manage policies, guidelines, and safety documents, ensuring effective implementation. Create and implement maintenance management strategies, policies, procedures, and processes. Develop and manage budgets.
  3. General and Task Management: Ensure maintenance targets are met. Delegate issues and projects appropriately, planning and managing effective work. Ensure stakeholder satisfaction. Develop and execute a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule, address missed activities, and lead the team effectively. Conduct risk assessments in collaboration with OHS. Audit and ensure compliance of systems under your responsibility. Optimize equipment performance and quality, achieving KPIs.
  4. Staff and Relationship Management: Manage staff training, development, performance, satisfaction, and safety. Liaise with internal teams and suppliers to maintain effective communication and relationships. Work with the management team to share ideas, support continuous improvement activities, and optimize results.

Excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and people management skills. Strong record-keeping, problem-solving, planning, and time management abilities.

Qualifications

Matric Certificate (minimum maths literacy). Additional related courses or qualifications are advantageous. Red Seal Qualification is advantageous.

Skills & Experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in general facility maintenance and managing engineering/technical teams in a large warehouse environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with electrical/mechanical maintenance in automotive and warehousing settings.
  • Experience with electrical systems such as UPS, DB Boards, Fire and Alarm Systems, HVAC systems.
  • Understanding of plumbing, carpentry, electrical systems, etc.
  • Knowledge of Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
  • Experience in planning maintenance operations and troubleshooting mechanical/electronic issues.
