Job summary

HotelJobs is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to oversee two game lodges, the staff village and the vehicle workshop on a private game reserve in the Eastern Cape near Port Elizabeth. The role requires hands-on leadership, budgeting, and planning to maintain guest facilities and infrastructure.

You will manage a team of maintenance staff and contractors, plan preventative and reactive work, and ensure roadworthy vehicles and water systems are reliable, with on-site accommodation

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a lodge/hospitality/game reserve setting.
• Strong leadership and budgeting capabilities.
• Hands-on maintenance and fault-finding skills.
• Knowledge of vehicle fleets, water systems, and basic electrical/plumbing work.

Responsibilities

Maintenance Manager. Game Lodges, Staff Village & Vehicle Workshop 4* Game Lodge and 5* Game Lodge, on a private game reserve in the Eastern Cape near Port Elizabeth (Gqeberha); are seeking an experienced, hands‑on Maintenance Manager to take full responsibility for the technical upkeep of both lodges; the central staff village, and the game‑vehicle workshop. This is a senior, all‑round role suited to a practical problem‑solver who can manage people, budgets, and infrastructure across a working bush reserve environment.

THE ROLE

• Oversee all maintenance across two game lodges, the central staff village, and the game‑vehicle workshop
• Manage and mentor a team of maintenance staff, artisans, and general workers
• Plan, budget for, and execute preventative and reactive maintenance programmes
• Ensure lodges, guest facilities, and staff accommodation are maintained to a high standard
• Oversee servicing, repair, and roadworthiness of game‑viewing and utility vehicles
• Manage borehole systems, pumps, reticulation, and water supply infrastructure across the reserve
• Coordinate with lodge management on maintenance scheduling to minimise guest disruption
• Manage stock, spares, tools, and supplier relationships for the workshop and stores
• Assist with general farm and reserve infrastructure management (fencing, roads, buildings)

REQUIREMENTS

• Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within a lodge, hospitality, or game reserve environment
• Solid working knowledge of vehicle mechanics and fleet maintenance
• Practical experience with boreholes, pumps, and water supply systems
• General building, electrical, and plumbing maintenance knowledge; farm management a plus
• Strong leadership, budgeting, and planning ability
• Own reliable vehicle and valid driver's licence essential
• Willing to live on‑site in the Port Elizabeth / Eastern Cape game reserve area
• Able to work independently and respond to after‑hours emergencies

PACKAGE

• Salary: approximately R25 000 per month (negotiable based on experience)
