Job summary

The Royal Portfolio is looking for a Maintenance Handyman at Royal Malewane Lodges. This role involves ensuring maintenance standards are met, performing checks in arrival rooms, and maintaining all hotel equipment. Candidates should have at least 2 years of experience in a luxury lodge setting and be proficient in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and building tasks.

Successful candidates must also exhibit professionalism, effective communication in English, and a positive attitude. Candidates with South African citizenship or a valid work permit will be favored.

Overview

The Maintenance Handymen at Royal Malewane Lodges work closely with the Maintenance Supervisors and Managers to ensure that all lodge maintenance requirements are met and kept at the highest Royal Portfolio standards. This position is an integral role in ensuring that Royal Malewane Lodges meet the purpose of The Royal Portfolio, which is “to give our guests a complete experience and a perfect stay.”

Responsibilities

• To ensure that the day-to-day operations of the maintenance department are carried out according to the standards of the company and as specified by senior management
• Conduct maintenance checks in all arrival rooms according to the maintenance check list
• Check public areas thoroughly for any maintenance issues
• Ensure that all hotel equipment needing attention is checked and is functioning properly
• Assist in ensuring that all necessary maintenance stock levels are maintained
• Receive and check all deliveries for maintenance to make sure they are accurate
• Report any breakages or problems to management and the Maintenance Manager immediately
• Assisting Gardeners and Groundsmen with their daily tasks when necessary
• Contribute to a thorough hand over at the end of every shift
• Ensure a secure and safe working environment across the lodge at all times
• Assist any new staff to understand their jobs and support them if they need help
• Lead by example in appearance and personal hygiene and ensure that all other maintenance staff on shift look neat and professional in their respective uniforms

Requirements, Qualifications & Expectations

• At least 2 years' experience in a luxury lodge environment
• Must have previous work experience in Maintenance
• Must have some exposure to Electrical / Plumbing/ Carpentry/ Building
• Be well presented, professional, enthusiastic and energetic
• Must have good communication skills in English (verbal, written and reading)
• Punctual, reliable, mature
• Pro-active, gets things done
• Must be a team player, have respect for fellow colleagues
• Positive attitude and highly responsive

It is important that the candidate is able to work as part of a team and is a good cultural fit for The Royal Portfolio. South African citizenship is advantageous.
