Job summary

Château Gâteaux in Durban is seeking a Maintenance Foreman to lead the site maintenance function, delivering reactive and proactive service on all equipment and facilities infrastructure.

You will develop a preventive maintenance schedule, drive KPIs, manage budgets and a skilled team, mentor staff, and implement continuous improvement while aligning with food safety and health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification related to Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related NQF level 6 qualification.
• 5–10 years of experience in the food manufacturing industry.
• High level of numeracy and budgeting understanding.
• Staff management experience.
• MS Office including Excel and other programs – working knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Understands the fundamentals of TPM, WCM or other maintenance strategy.
• Develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule and lead the team to deliver effectively.
• Review & update maintenance policies, procedures & external maintenance schedules.
• Schedule internal and external work to maximize planned downtime and reduce unplanned downtime.
• Delegate maintenance issues and small projects to the right skills and manage works.
• Ensure signed Service Level Agreements with all service providers.
• Lead and coach a high performing maintenance team to meet objectives and drive improvements.
• Assist in introduction of new machinery and manage project elements.
• Develop budget strategy for maintenance material spend and manage expenditure.
• Manage stores and critical spares & tools using best practices.
• Review & update machinery SMPs & develop new ones.
• Apply food safety policy and participate in food safety audits.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental standards.

Château Gâteaux is looking for a Maintenance Foreman to lead the site Maintenance function in providing both a reactive and proactive, multi-skilled maintenance service on all operational equipment and facilities infrastructure. This role is responsible for planned scheduling creation and overseeing the adherence and timely completion of work carried out. Increase the site operational effectiveness, improve on project delivery, mean time between failure and downtime reduction by driving Key maintenance KPIs. Manage the team on technical best practice and establish standard policies and procedures whilst also mentoring and leading the department. Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principals by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in training, working practices and processes.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Understands the fundamental basics of TPM, WCM or any other Maintenance Strategy.
• Develop a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule, ensure full preventative maintenance is carried out, plan in missed maintenance activities, and lead the team to deliver effectively.
• Review & Update Maintenance policies, procedures & external maintenance schedules.
• Schedule both internal and external work(s) maximizing planned down time and reducing unplanned downtime while ensuring equipment availability.
• Effectively delegate any maintenance issues to be resolved on each shift and small projects to the right skills in the team, planning and managing effective works
• Ensure that signed Service Level Agreements are in place with all service providers.
• Strong Leadership and time management skills by managing, coaching and develop a high performing maintenance team that meets agreed objectives and which delivers best practice results, added value and continuous improvements
• Assist in introduction of new machinery into the plant and managing of operational elements of projects.
• Develop clear accountability for maintenance material spend combined with a strategy to manage expenditure. Ultimately Maintenance budget will be a key responsibility of the role.
• To manage stores and critical spares & tools using best practices
• Review & update machinery SMP's & develop new ones
• Apply organization's food safety policy & procedures and participating in Food Safety activities such as audits
• Ensure conformance to relevant legislations, regulations & standards and ensuring that Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are adhered too.
• Optimize equipment according to standard procedure, enhancing performance and product quality, ensuring the achievement of all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
