Job summary

Abantu Staffing Solutions is seeking an experienced maintenance/engineering leader to drive machine uptime through proactive maintenance and strong supervisory oversight. You will lead a team to optimize production, respond to breakdowns, and perform root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.

Beyond technical excellence, the role requires staff development, adherence to safety policies, and cost-control across maintenance activities.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years in a maintenance/engineering/ process environment within manufacturing.
• Minimum 2 years supervisory experience within a similar role.
• Knowledge of SCADA packages, electrical and Thyristor drives, robotic systems, PLC, AC drives and servo systems, ethernet network systems, etc.

Responsibilities

• Lead an engineering maintenance team and ensure optimal machine up-time through proactive maintenance within specific lead times to improve production output.
• Ensure that breakdowns are responded to within stipulated time frames to ensure minimal downtime and to maximize plant productivity.
• Conduct root cause analysis to determine root cause of the breakdown and to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure staff are effectively managed and held accountable through performance and disciplinary procedures, and that staff are developed and mentored through the talent management and IDP processes to drive capability in business.
• Propose improvements and alterations to machinery and equipment to ensure quality and production volumes are optimized.
• Drive safety in area of responsibility and ensure 100% compliance with all safety procedures and policies.
• Monitor costs associated with contractors, energy, waste, material, maintenance, spares and reworks to ensure that costs do not exceed budget parameters.
• Ensure effective communication of relevant information to all stakeholders to support effective decision making for the business.
