Job description

Our client is looking for a Maintenance Electrician to join their team in Airport Industria, Cape Town. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and hands-on experience in maintaining electrical systems within a manufacturing environment. Experience in the plastics or FMCG industry would be highly advantageous. The company specialises in the production and packaging of goods using machinery such as Ulma, Omori, and Terioka, and requires a reliable, skilled technician to ensure maximum equipment uptime and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical machinery and equipment

  • Diagnose and repair breakdowns efficiently to minimize downtime

  • Perform preventative maintenance, including weekend standby when necessary

  • Weld using TIG, MIG, ARC, and Oxy methods

  • Operate and maintain FMCG packing machines (e.g. Ulma / Omori / Terioka)

  • Work with hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, and PLC systems

  • Set and adjust HMI systems and speed drives

  • Carry out general factory and production line maintenance

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete relevant paperwork

  • Adhere to ISO 22000 health and safety standards

  • Maintain a high standard of workmanship and work ethic

Requirements:

  • Technical background with at least 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Exposure to plastics or FMCG industries preferred

  • Strong communication and team coordination skills

  • Willingness to learn and develop further technical expertise

  • Ability to lead or work within a team during repairs and installations

  • PLC, HMI, speed drive, and genset experience

  • Must be available for standby and weekend maintenance as needed
