Job summary

An established industry player is seeking a skilled Database Administrator with extensive experience in IDMS and DB2 databases. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database tuning and troubleshooting, ensuring optimal performance and security. This role involves creating and maintaining database objects, monitoring data access, and participating in disaster recovery exercises. With a focus on operational excellence, you will be part of a dynamic team, contributing to strategic initiatives and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers. This position offers flexibility, as most roles are remote, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home while being within traveling distance as needed.

  • 8+ years in IT, with 5+ years as an operational DBA.
  • Experience with IDMS and DB2 databases is essential.

Job description

Job Responsibilities
  1. Create and maintain business database objects within an IDMS and DB2 subsystem.
  2. Perform database tuning to ensure the DBMS functions at optimal levels.
  3. Troubleshoot database and DBMS errors and provide solutions to support business needs.
  4. Implement operational and business strategies, industry best practices, and ensure ITO governance is in place.
  5. Monitor databases and provide notifications to ensure optimal data access, supporting business applications in line with contractual agreements.
  6. Offer database consultation and design solutions to Business Development and Service Management for current and future projects.
  7. Participate in the disaster recovery (DR) team to design, perform, and document recovery procedures.
  8. Service incidents, changes, and requests, ensuring SLAs are met.
  9. Enforce security standards to prevent data compromise and maintain database integrity.
  10. Provide managerial reports on database utility, capacity, and utilization for informed decision-making.
  11. Maintain relationships with suppliers for incident handling.
What we are looking for :
  • IT degree or equivalent industry accreditation preferred.
  • At least 8 years in the IT industry, with a minimum of 5 years as an operational DBA in a large, complex corporate environment.
  • Minimum of 4 years working experience on IDMS / DB2 databases.
  • Understanding of mainframe OS concepts and experience in other mainframe disciplines.
  • Experience participating in a DR exercise.
