Job summary

Boardroom Appointments in Johannesburg seeks an experienced Engineer Database Specialist for the Mainframe Infrastructure team to maintain DB2 databases and ensure high availability. You will work with z/OS, COBOL, Rexx, SQL, and perform tuning, backups, and runstats, aligning with security and regulatory requirements.

Required: 15 years of mainframe experience, strong DB2/EIMS/MQ/CICS knowledge, and ability to provide 24x7 standby support. Excellent stakeholder communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Excellent understanding of Mainframe operating systems and hardware.
• Strong DB2 engineering experience.
• Good knowledge of IMS, DB2, MQ, CICS, and VMAX disks.

Responsibilities

• Support end user programmers and application teams.
• Write and analyze SQL statements.
• Perform extensive performance tuning and enhancements.
• Create DB2 databases, tablespaces, tables, indexes for Test / Dev / QA and Production environments.
• Partitioning.
• Automation of processes.
• Responsible for data and object housekeeping and maintenance.
• Reorg/Run stats/Backups.

• Database availability: Uptime and stability.
