Job summary

The Unit Accountant role is based on-site at a luxury hotel in Hermanus, employed through an independent firm in Knysna. You will work with the hotel GM and the Knysna finance team to manage the accounting function, month-end close, budgeting and internal controls.

Ideal candidates will hold a four-year accounting degree with at least two years of general ledger experience; hotel experience is a plus. Strong Excel skills and confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree in accounting preferred.
• At least two years of General Ledger and high-volume accounting experience required
• Prior hotel/resort experience preferred
• Must have strong financial competence - analyse, organise and present data clearly
• Must be able to perform in a highly confidential environment
• Must have strong computer skills and MS Office proficiency (Excel & Outlook)

Responsibilities

• Manage the accounting function and a stock controller.
• Produce and analyse month-end accounts with forecasts and prior periods.
• Assist in preparing budgets and business planning, including room revenue projections.
• Reconcile bank statements and ensure VAT and PAYE compliance.
• Follow Health and Safety procedures and maintain internal controls.
