Job summary

The President Hotel in Bantry Bay, Cape Town, is seeking a skilled Baker to prepare breads and baked goods for our 349-room hotel, supporting breakfast, restaurant, buffet, banqueting and events. You will plan daily production with senior chefs and ensure freshness, flavour and presentation across multiple service occasions.

Minimum 2 years of hotel/bakery experience is required; relevant baking qualifications are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' baking experience in hotel, bakery or reputable restaurant.
• Relevant Baking/Culinary/ Pastry qualification is advantageous.
• Experience producing breads, rolls and other baked goods.
• Understanding of dough preparation, mixing, kneading, fermentation, proofing and baking.
• Ability to follow recipes and measure ingredients accurately with consistent quality.
• Experience planning production for busy service periods.
• Operate bakery equipment safely (mixers, ovens, proofing equipment).
• Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, allergen management and stock rotation.
• Strong attention to detail, time management and organisational skills.
• Work independently and as part of a kitchen team.
• Availability for early-morning shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Updated CV with contactable references.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and bake breads, rolls and other baked goods according to established recipes and hotel standards.
• Manage dough preparation, fermentation, proofing and baking for consistent flavour, texture and appearance.
• Plan daily production with senior chefs according to occupancy and event bookings.
• Ensure baked goods are fresh and ready for breakfast, restaurant, buffet, banqueting and events.
• Monitor ingredient quantities, baking temperatures and production times.
• Check finished products for quality, consistency and presentation.
• Store, label and rotate ingredients while controlling portions and minimizing waste.
• Keep bakery equipment and work areas clean and organised.
• Follow food safety, hygiene and allergen-management procedures.
• Report equipment faults and shortages promptly.
• Contribute ideas for new bakery items and support the wider kitchen team.
