Job summary

FirstRand Limited in Johannesburg seeks an Algorithmic Trading Software Developer to design and build high-performance, low-latency trading applications across FX, fixed income, commodities and equities.

You will work with traders, quants and product owners to translate strategies into scalable solutions, implement smart order routing, real-time pricing and robust market data ingestion.

The role covers full SDLC, DevOps practices, and production support in a regulated banking environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in CS/Engineering/Finance or related field.
• Strong knowledge of Java, OO design and performance tuning.
• Experience with modern Java tech, Spring, CI/CD is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and support high-performance algorithmic trading platforms across FX, FI, commodities and equities.
• Develop low-latency trading applications capable of processing market data in real time.
• Collaborate with Traders, Quants and Product Owners to translate strategies into scalable solutions.
• Implement smart order routing, execution algorithms and automated trading workflows.
• Build observability, testing, CI/CD and production-readiness into platforms.
