Job description

1. Plan, lead, and control Logistics resources on shift.

  1. Ensure reports on subordinates' work attendance are recorded and sent to HR on a shift basis.
  2. Ensure competency by adhering to the training schedule monthly.
  3. Report deviations with corrective and preventative actions.
  4. Inspect equipment to ensure safe and optimal operation; report downtime and causes to Maintenance within 10 minutes.
  5. Initiate job cards and liaise with Logistics Analyst to plan maintenance activities during the shift.
  6. Schedule subordinates per shift to optimize production and reduce overtime.
  7. Coach and develop subordinates to meet set goals per shift.
  8. Conduct performance appraisals as per NCPs' policy and procedure.
  9. Perform weekly self-audits and regular job observations on subordinates.
  10. Rework products that do not conform to specifications.
  11. Coordinate maintenance, filling, and dispatch of Chlorine Road Tankers daily.
  12. Communicate with customer service and weighbridge operators to plan and schedule loads based on stock and quality.
  13. Coordinate and control maintenance, filling, and dispatch of Chlorine drums and cylinders daily.

2. Coordinate all Logistics activities on shift.

  1. Ensure availability of suitable packaging units according to the packaging list.
  2. Maintain accurate stock counts of bulk, packed products, and empty containers.
  3. Ensure product quality by liaising with the laboratory and reviewing quality records.
  4. Dispatch products as per the Daily Program on all shifts and after hours, including weekends and holidays.
  5. Record all information regarding packed and dispatched products in Moodi and SAP per shift.
  6. Coordinate maintenance, filling, and dispatch of Chlorine Road Tankers on shift.
  7. Address delays at loading areas.
  8. Train new subordinates and colleagues on job scope during shifts.
  9. Manage final products per shift, including filling drums, flobins, polycans, Cl2 drums, and cylinders.
  10. Monitor and review plant equipment operation to minimize downtime and identify improvements.

3. Ensure compliance with SC SHEQ objectives and targets.

  1. Ensure compliance with OSHAS 18001 and other relevant health and safety legislation.
  2. Ensure compliance with SANS ISO 9001 and other quality standards.
  3. Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and environmental legislation.
  4. Conduct root cause investigations (RCIs) according to standards and report to the RCI committee in morning shifts.
  5. Report incidents (off-spec, PCC, FCC, etc.) to the Northern Plants & Site Logistics Manager per shift.
  6. Conduct safety audits weekly; report and rectify findings.
  7. Approve all final products on site per shift.
  8. Approve break bulk products during shifts in SAP.
  9. Update and correct stock and quality data in SAP per shift.
  10. Address CAPA audit findings related to Environment, Safety, and Quality regularly.

4. Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships.

  1. Compile and report shift information to the Northern Plants & Site Logistics Manager.
  2. Provide shift information to incoming workers at shift start.
  3. Share relevant information daily with stakeholders.
  4. Manage disciplinary matters according to the NCP Disciplinary Code.
  5. Liaise with transporters.

5. Ensure cost control on shift.

  1. Achieve people-related cost targets for overtime, call-outs, and staff refreshments.
  2. Reduce vehicle turnaround times at loading points.
  3. Prevent primary containment incidents of final products across the supply chain.
  4. Complete work accurately and timely.
  5. Develop personal and staff development plans.
  6. Implement succession planning for subordinates.
  7. Ensure adherence to OHS standards on shift.
  8. Optimize staffing levels.
  9. Manage and compile shift rosters for all logistics sections.
  10. Control overtime for material handlers.
  11. Train and sign off subordinate training.

7. Related SHERQ responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of relevant health, safety, and quality legislation.
  • Understand supply chain activities.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Moodi, and SAP.
  • Knowledge of chlorine filling, HCL/Ferric loading, hypo/Cl2 tanking, and dispatch.
  • Planning, organizing, communication, confidentiality, attention to detail, results-driven, analytical ability, initiative.

Experience

  • 2-5 years in a chemical manufacturing plant.
  • 1-2 years in supply chain.
  • 1-2 years supervisory experience.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science.
  • National Diploma in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or Operations/Production Management (advantageous).

Reporting structure: Reports to the Secondary Manufacturing Manager.

Personal circumstances

Satisfactory medical report required; shift work necessary.
