The Logistics Operator is responsible for managing the daily operations of the logistics department, including monitoring and optimizing fleet efficiency, managing driver HR-related matters, sourcing and securing loads, and maintaining relationships with prospective and existing clients. The role ensures that all logistics activities run smoothly, cost-effectively, and in compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations & Reporting:
Prepare and submit daily operational reports on fleet performance, driver activities, and overall logistics efficiency.
Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to fleet usage, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance.
Track and report on operational costs, including vehicle running expenses and load profitability.
Conduct daily calculations of cost-effectiveness and rand-per-kilometer (R/km) metrics to ensure optimal financial performance.
Identify inefficiencies and implement corrective measures to improve profitability.
Tyre Cost Management
Monitor tyre usage and costs to optimize longevity and reduce expenses.
Schedule and oversee tyre maintenance, rotations, and replacements as necessary.
Maintain a detailed record of tyre inventory and purchases.
Fuel Efficiency Management
Track fuel consumption and identify areas for improvement in efficiency.
Implement strategies to reduce fuel costs and enhance fleet sustainability.
Ensure compliance with fuel policies and maintain fuel usage logs for audit purposes.
Driver Management & HR
Supervise and support drivers, ensuring compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
Coordinate driver schedules, assignments, and performance evaluations.
Address HR-related matters, including leave management, disciplinary actions, and training.
Load Sourcing & Client Relations
Identify and secure new business opportunities by sourcing loads and negotiating rates.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, freight brokers, and other stakeholders.
Manage contracts and agreements to ensure mutually beneficial terms.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with all transport regulations, including vehicle licensing and road safety laws.
Conduct regular audits to verify adherence to company policies and procedures.
Coordinate vehicle servicing and preventive maintenance schedules.
Key Requirements
Education: Diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (preferred).
