Logistics Manager (Manufacturing)

Logistics Manager (Manufacturing) required in Johannesburg.

We are looking for a highly organised and proactive Logistics Manager to oversee the daily operations of the yard and procurement.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing inventory, optimising yard layout, ensuring FIFO principles are followed and maintaining high standards in warehouse housekeeping (including security), vehicle maintenance and record keeping. In addition, the role is responsible for procurement of production materials and consumables.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Procurement:

• Oversee the procurement of production raw material and other consumables.
• Yard Layout and Organisation
• Ensure efficient layout to support smooth operations and FIFO implementation.
• Train forklift drivers and coordinate with production teams on proper stacking and packing.
• Conduct daily yard inspections to identify and rectify production or stock issues.

Inventory Management and FIFO Implementation:

• Management of raw material inventories
• Ensure that FIFO principles for finished goods is applied.
• Train and oversee staff to accurately follow FIFO principles.
• Coordinate with production forklift drivers to optimize stock placement.

Receiving and Dispatching Products:

• Oversee receipt of products from suppliers, production, ensuring quality and correct storage and/ or stacking.
• Verify stock condition before approving receipt of raw materials and dispatch of finished goods to customers.
• Work closely with suppliers, Production and Quality teams to maintain product standards.

Returns and Product Upgrading / Downgrading:

• Manage returned stock, ensuring it is correctly assessed, recorded, and processed.
• Supervise product repacking, ensuring proper labelling and placement.

Cycle Counts and Recordkeeping:

• Conduct daily cycle counts and update stock records.
• Ensure accurate stock documentation to prevent over/under-promising customers.
• Maintain detailed records of stock movements, vehicle maintenance, and quality checks.

Warehouse Housekeeping and Vehicle Maintenance:

• Maintain a clean and organised yard, ensuring smooth traffic flow.
• Conduct regular inspections of yard vehicles, ensuring proper maintenance.
• Address any damages or maintenance needs promptly.
• Manage housekeeping of peripheral areas of the site.

General Responsibilities:

• Adhere to work schedules, including Saturdays when required.
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
• Manage security to ensure protection of all assets
• Report any theft, stock shortages, or operational inefficiencies promptly.

Requirements:

• A relevant tertiary qualification is a plus.
• Matric / Grade 12.
• Proven experience in warehouse and yard management.
• Strong understanding of inventory control, FIFO and logistics.
• Advanced computer and ERP system skills.
• Ability to lead and train staff effectively.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to operate accross a wide variety of responsibilities.
• Good communication and recordkeeping abilities.
• Forklift fleet management experience is a plus.
