Job description

Introduction

A leading furniture manufacturer located in the South of Johannesburg is seeking to employ a Logistics Manager who will report directly to the COO.

Duties & Responsibilities

Main Job Responsibilities:

To manage the entire Logistics Department, including but not limited to:

  1. Oversee and control transport of finished goods between the factory and the warehouse.
  2. Manage stock and stock rotation of finished goods and conduct monthly stock takes in the warehouses.
  3. Oversee housekeeping inside the finished goods warehouses.
  4. Manage outstanding PODs for stock already delivered to customers.
  5. Manage the company's logistics functions, including:
    1. Managing third-party transporters, negotiating prices, contracts, and PODs.
    2. Handling loading and deliveries of stock to customers.
    3. Managing delivery bookings with customers based on production schedules and stock availability.
    4. Facilitating communication between dispatch and production departments for daily operations.
    5. Planning loads to ensure timely deliveries at minimal costs.
    6. Coordinating repairs and dispatch to ensure defective stock is repaired and redelivered within 21 days.
    7. Drafting and managing the annual Logistics Budget.
    8. Controlling costs within the budget.
    9. Implementing process improvements to reduce transport costs.
    10. Maintaining biweekly communication with the Logistics team.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

Minimum requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Logistics.
  • 5-10 years of managerial experience in a manufacturing, FMCG, or logistics environment.
  • Managing at least 50 subordinates, including general workers, supervisors, administrators, and managers.
  • Proficient in computer use, especially advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with SYSPRO is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, work under pressure, and multitask.
  • Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
