Job summary

An automotive company based in East London is seeking a skilled Logistics Manager to oversee logistics functions, ensuring materials are available for manufacturing and managing inventories. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Logistics or Purchasing Management, at least 5 years of experience in a unionised environment, and strong leadership abilities. Knowledge of relevant standards such as TS 16949 and experience with Baan ERP will be beneficial. This role also emphasizes achieving operational objectives and maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years Logistics Management experience in a unionised environment.
• Working knowledge of applicable labour legislation in the South African context.
• Knowledge of TS 16949, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Ensure material and components required in manufacturing is available timeously.
• Manage material and finish goods inventories in line with budget.
• Ensure cycle counts are conducted and stock adjustments are done.
• Manage and report on monthly KPI’s related to the logistics department.
• Create a safe and accident-free work environment.
• Prepare annual budget for the logistics department.
• Communicate with OEMs regarding logistics issues.
• Ensure subordinates are trained and working according to the L+W management systems.
• Participate in the introduction of new projects.
• Maintain a safe and accident free work environment.
• Create an environment of effectiveness, efficiency and optimum performance of employees by providing direction, motivation and development in line with operational objectives.

Job requirements:

• Degree/Diploma (preferably Logistics or Purchasing Management)
• MDP or relevant business management qualification (advantageous)
• At least 5 years Logistics Management experience in a unionised environment
• Strong business acumen with regards to cost consciousness, efficiency improvement and production planning
• Knowledge in business intelligence portals and capable to generate own reports
• Ability to lead and motivate employees towards achieving a set of predetermined targets
• Working knowledge of applicable labour legislation in the South African context
• Advanced knowledge in MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
• Knowledge of Baan ERP system
• Knowledge of TS 16949, ISO14001 and ISO 45001
• The ability to speak German will be advantageous

• Ensure that forecast are submitted to suppliers and the timeous arrival of imported and local components.
• Manage and report on monthly KPI’s related to the logistics department
• Compile annual financial budget for logistics department
• Communication to OEM’s regarding any logistic related issues
• Ensure that all subordinates are trained and working according to the L+W management systems
• Participate in the introduction of new projects
• Maintain a safe and accident free work environment
• Create an environment of effectiveness, efficiency and optimum performance of employees by providing direction, motivation and development in line with operational objectives
