Job summary

Discovery Health Care Services (DHCS) is building a Locum General Practitioner Talent Pool to support on-site clinic networks across South Africa. This role involves providing comprehensive primary care, including acute and preventative services, across varied sites and durations.

Successful candidates will join a trusted network supporting Discovery's clinical excellence and delivery of high-quality patient care within corporate and primary healthcare environments.

Qualifications

• Current HPCSA registration in good standing.
• BHFS registration (where applicable).
• Valid dispensing licence and permit (where applicable).
• Professional indemnity insurance.
• Minimum 3 years' experience as a practicing General Practitioner.
• Experience in primary healthcare or corporate settings is advantageous.
• Demonstrated commitment to delivering exceptional patient care and service.
• Strong clinical judgement and decision-making skills.
• Ability to build trust and strong patient relationships.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• High attention to detail and professional integrity.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patient consultations, assessments, examinations, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.
• Prescribe and manage medication in accordance with clinical protocols and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate referrals to specialists, allied health professionals, pathology, radiology and emergency services when required.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and patient records.
• Deliver preventative healthcare, health promotion and wellness interventions, and minor procedures within primary care scope.
• Diagnose, monitor and manage chronic conditions including hypertension, diabetes, HIV and other prevalent diseases.
• Support patients with long-term treatment plans and disease management programmes.
• Review diagnostic and pathology results and adjust treatment plans where appropriate.
• Work with nursing and multidisciplinary teams; contribute to quality initiatives and governance.
• Assess and stabilize medical emergencies; facilitate escalation to higher care when needed.
