Litigation Legal Secretary
Job description
Responsibilities:
- Drafting and formatting legal documents such as pleadings, affidavits, briefs, memoranda, and discovery requests.
- Proofreading documents for accuracy and compliance with legal formatting standards.
- Compiling and organizing legal documents within case files.
- Case management:
- Opening new case files, recording relevant details, and updating case management systems.
- Tracking deadlines, court dates, and important milestones in litigation cases.
- Maintaining detailed case files with proper organization and indexing.
- Scheduling and Communication:
- Scheduling court appearances, depositions, client meetings, and conferences.
- Communicating with clients to provide updates on case progress and gather necessary information.
- Contacting opposing counsel and other parties to coordinate legal matters.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Performing general administrative duties as required.
MINIMUM CRITERIA:
- Proficient typing and computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Organizational skills
- Communication skills: Clear and professional verbal and written communication with clients, attorneys, and opposing counsel. (Afrikaans & English)
- Legal knowledge: Basic understanding of legal terminology, procedures, and court rules.
