Working with the Senior Managers and Executive Management Team, you will be responsible for leading the security complement on a particular shift.
You will be executing all safety and security tasks and initiatives in line with legislation and Cape Grace policy to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, a safe and secure environment at Cape Grace for all stakeholders.
Reports directly to the Security Manager. Lead the Security Team by creating a work environment that promotes teamwork, performance feedback, recognition, mutual respect, and employee satisfaction.
Monitor and develop team member performance, including but not limited to:
Train team members in line with company policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Liaise with V & A Security and local law enforcement on matters pertaining to the Hotel. Establish, manage, and maintain effective and professional working relationships with staff, suppliers, customers, and stakeholders of the partner companies. Ensure that all staff and contractors at all times act in such a way as to protect the positive image of Cape Grace. Manage the team to ensure that guest interactions are satisfactory and meet Cape Grace standards.
Lead security functions to preserve the security of guests, staff, visitors, and the facility. Oversee the daily workflow schedules, rostering, and assignments of related shifts. Prepare and conduct training for new hires and current staff, including training on workplace searches, drug and alcohol procedures, and related safety and security topics. Responsible for the management of the Security team, including contracted staff. Ensure key management procedures are strictly adhered to. Assist with the development, auditing, testing, and implementation of Business Continuity Plans. Initiate investigations; engage leadership to implement solutions to internal control issues identified during investigations. Conduct, supervise, and prepare reports relating to internal investigations, losses, or violations of regulations, policies, and procedures. Ensure that staff are suitably trained, supported, and monitored, and that appropriate corrective action is taken when staff fail to comply with policies and procedures relating to Security.
Act as Section 8.2 appointee for the Security Department reporting to the 16.2 Appointee. Direct the response to emergency situations including but not limited to safety hazards, fires, medical emergencies, and threats to life and/or property. Oversee the administration and accuracy of all required reports and documentation. Carry out risk assessments, H&S inspections, and the management of fire safety, emergency evacuation, and first aid equipment as required. Keep up to date with H&S legislation affecting the work of Cape Grace and advise the Executive Team on legal compliance. Ensure that staff are suitably trained, supported, and monitored, and that appropriate corrective action is taken when staff fail to comply with policies and procedures relating to health and safety.
Matric / Grade 12 is a pre-requisite. PSIRA Grade B qualification is a pre-requisite. Emergency Coordinators certificate, Basic first aid, basic firefighting, fire marshal, and SHE representative certificates/training would be highly advantageous. Minimum of 5 years Security experience in the 5-star hospitality and tourism industry is preferred. Experience in the investigation of incidents (Security and Health & Safety). Experience in Health and Safety Risk Assessment is advantageous. Strong knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Good working knowledge of CCTV systems, Saflok key system, Maestro, Remrad, and Ziton Fire panels & systems, Panic and intruder alarm systems. Fully computer literate on the MS Office Suite.
