PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the job is to manage all the manufacturing activities for a project(s) of an EPU (Elementary Production Unit) including the responsibilities linked to the position as hierarchical manager for all the operators of the manufacturing organization who belong to the EPU. The Work Centre Manager plans, organises, directs, and controls the manufacturing activities within the environment including end to end people management.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Objectives:

  • Understand how the organization works in all aspects.
  • Support any project, co-ordinate any required activity within departments throughout the organization.
  • Ensure control procedures are being adhered to.
  • Ensure that resources are available to achieve ALSTOM ROLLING STOCK operational objectives.
  • Motivate, develop and direct subordinates to achieve operational objectives.
  • Lead and motivate subordinates to achieve ALSTOM ROLLING STOCK objectives.
  • Ensure that the financial objectives in terms of WIP and projects are achieved.
  • Ensure that the management of risk meets ALSTOM ROLLING STOCK requirements and guidelines and standards.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting on manufacturing activities.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and provide direction to structural assembly environment.
  • Ensure that the financial objectives in terms of Production programs and projects are achieved to support ALSTOM ROLLING STOCK business plans.
  • Manage a group of employees engaged in performing a variety of production or assembly in various operations within the factory.
  • Ensure that the ALSTOM ROLLING STOCK transformation management process is implemented, and objectives achieved.
  • Schedule and meet production needs.
  • Anticipate the need for materials and issue purchase order requisitions accordingly.
  • Attend to necessary record keeping of the daily progress of production. Implement visual management systems with KPI’s.
  • Ensure all tools and machinery are cleaned, maintained, and available according to schedule or in a timely manner.
  • Attend briefing sessions.
  • Ensure that the management of risk meets ALSTOM ROLLING STOCK requirements with a high focus on safety objectives.
  • Lead safe work procedures, correct employees on such matters and set an example of such.
  • Oversee training of employees, ensuring training plans are in place as well as multi-skill development.
  • Closely supervise the work practices and performance of employees and write performance reviews as scheduled. Hold subordinates accountable to task assignments.
  • Lead Safety, Quality, cost and delivery on-time performance.
  • Optimize the workstation/work center using APSYS Tools.
  • Ensure the operations KPI’s are achieved, visualized, and kept up to date continually.
  • Manage downtime.
  • Manage headcount and overtime.
  • Ensure that the department complies with SHEQ standards.
  • Ensure that the department complies with ISO 9001:2008 standards.
  • Ensure that the department complies with OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 standards.

MAIN REQUIRED COMPETENCES

Educational Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Formal Trade Qualification
  • Technical Degree

Experience

Mandatory:

  • Minimum of at least 8 years relevant industry experience in operational/industrial role.
  • Minimum of 5 years blue collar management experience.
  • Hands-on people management skills in an operational environment (end to end – recruit, manage, develop, discipline, coach).
  • Sound computer literacy - MS Office suite.
  • Interpersonal Skills.
  • Proven track record of organizing and planning.
  • Good communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Networking and Relationship Building Skills.
  • Prepared to work extended hours and shifts when required.
  • Knowledge of OSHACT.
  • Basic understanding of budgets and project finance.
  • Understanding of ability to plan workforces around work output and project schedules.
  • Experience in the Railway industry, preferably within an industrialization environment.
  • Manufacturing experience.
  • Welding and mechanical environment experience.
