Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform on-site service and repairs on all types of lifting equipment including beams, electric overhead cranes, electric rope hoists, electric chain hoists, mechanical chain blocks, and lever blocks.
- Maintain and service ancillary equipment such as festoon systems, supply systems, and safety systems.
- Install, test, and calibrate load-limiting devices.
- Conduct in-house strip and quotes for various lifting equipment and accessories, including shackles, slings, eye bolts, lifting tackles, and engine kits for aircraft use.
- Perform in-house proof load testing on beams, cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment as per OHSA standards.
- Make modifications to upgrade electrical and mechanical units.
- Rig, dismantle, and move machinery and equipment as required.
- Attend to breakdowns and provide timely solutions.
- Liaise with clients, handle administration, and correspondence related to lifting equipment services.
- Conduct inspections and testing of lifting equipment, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations such as OSHA, ANSI, and ASME.
- Utilize inspection tools, instruments, and software to assess equipment condition and performance.
- Perform visual and functional checks on cranes, hoists, slings, chains, hooks, and accessories to detect defects or damage.
- Use testing equipment like load cells and dynamometers to evaluate structural integrity and load capacity.
- Review maintenance records and prepare detailed inspection reports highlighting deficiencies or non-compliance issues.
- Provide guidance to clients on safe operation and maintenance of lifting equipment.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on equipment modifications or upgrades.
- Stay updated on industry regulations, standards, and technological advancements.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and incident investigations to promote safety culture.
- Maintain professional certifications and licenses for lifting machinery inspections.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
- Matric (advantage).
- Lifting Machinery Certificate.
- LMI registration with relevant authority.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the lifting machinery industry.
- Comprehensive knowledge of lifting equipment.
- Valid medical and driver’s license.
