Job summary

DHL Global Forwarding is seeking a Life Science Controller in Johannesburg, South Africa, to manage and control Life Science and Healthcare import/export shipments in line with SOPs, regulatory standards, and client instructions. You will handle temperature-controlled logistics, documentation, and coordination with service centers.

The role requires knowledge of GDP, CSOPs, and compliance, along with strong MS Excel skills, attention to detail, and effective communication.

Qualifications

• Experience in Life Science import/export operations.
• Familiar with GDP standards and CSOP/SOPs.
• Knowledge of SARS, WHO and IATA standards.
• Proficient in MS Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Weekend overtime may be required.
• Forklift licence is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Check pre-conditioning, build-up and break down of active ULDs.
• Conduct random physical inspections of inbound/outbound cargo.
• Ensure customer requirements are met and take corrective actions.
• Monitor inbound cold chain processes and temperature control.
• Process customs documentation with airlines and third parties.
• Invoicing and recording all deliveries.

- DHL Global Forwarding has an opening for a Life Science Controller in Johannesburg, South Africa. Accurate managing and controlling of Life Science and Healthcare import/export shipments according to client instructions, SOP’s, SARS, WHO and IATA standards and regulatory compliance, as well as GXP and Best Practice principles.

In this Life Science Controller position

• Checks pre-conditioning, build-up, and break down of active ULD’s (e.g., Envirotainer, CSafe, etc.) and passive temperature-controlled packaging (e.g., pallet shippers, Silver pods, etc.)
• Conduct random physical inspections of the inbound/outbound cargo
• Ensures customer requirements are met and takes corrective actions in case of deviations from customer requirements
• GDP standards in cooperation with Thermonet / Life Track services to be followed and maintained
• Handles goods within the required temperature range as per documentation / CSOP, including correct storage
• Helps to ensure contractor adherence to quality procedures
• Instructs warehouse about handling procedures of the respective shipments, ensure CSOPs and internal SOPs / Wis are followed
• Interacts with Customer Service, Product, and Global Service Centres, if required
• Monitors and controls inbound cold chain processes (e.g., communicate flight delays, re-icing of containers).
• Performs all duties specified in LSHE SOP’s and CSOPs
• Performs delivery arrangement, including DC Bookings, driver notification of preconditioning temperatures and monitoring temperatures via monitoring system while deliveries are taking place
• Processes, handles and distributes all required documents in the receiving / dispatching areas
• Receives, handles and transmits customs documentation from airlines or other 3rd parties to Lead/Hub stations and other 3rd parties (e.g. customs authorities, customs broker)
• Records all inbound/outbound deliveries
• System data updates within CW1, Movation, Control sheet but not limited too
• Invoicing
• Take care of icing/re-icing of Envirotainer etc.

• Trained and certified for Thermonet requirements.
• Weekend Overtime if required
• Forklift Licence will be beneficial to assist in warehouse if required
• 3 – 5 Years working experience in Operations Freight Forwarding Logistic
• Matric or equivalent
• Advanced Computer Literacy
• F2 forklift license preferable
