Job description

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To assist the Senior Librarian: Electronic Resources Management (ERM) by continuing and expanding access to all e-resources through responsible acquisition, bibliographic, administration and maintenance in support of Learning, Teaching and Research.


KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  1. To execute all ERM operational processes and workflows related to the acquiring, licensing, accession, and maintenance of all e-resources.
  2. Monitoring the subscription renewals, payments, and usage statistics of the e-resources.
  3. To ensure that the bibliographic records are full records and that all the information on the records is correct and updated regularly.
  4. To ensure that all URL links are updated and accessible on the ILS, Knowledge Base, and the Library Catalogue.
  5. To be able to communicate with vendors, publishers and knowledge agents on products, services, and access-related queries.
  6. To assist the Senior Librarian: ERM in ensuring that all e-resources are accessible in a seamless manner by being able to adapt to a changing environment and keeping abreast of emerging technologies and metadata standards.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  1. Experience working in a networked academic university library and integrated operations and how these operations relate to providing intellectual access to e-resources.
  2. Experience in technical support services with regards to systems, networks and the online environment.
  3. Effective communication skills.
  4. Good judgment and initiative, effective problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills and excellent customer service skills.
  5. Knowledge of the digital publishing industry.
  6. Ability to work independently and within a team.
  7. Meticulous in data entry, responsible, accountable and flexible.

Requirements

To be considered for appointment to this post, candidates must possess:

  1. M+3: Library and Information Sciences or Information Technology (IT).
  2. Minimum of 3 years working experience in an ERM or IT environment in an academic institution.
  3. Knowledgeable working with Integrated systems, Tools, Information Dissemination and Microsoft Excel.
