Numata Business IT is actively hiring a Level 1 Cyber Security Analyst to work as part of our 24/7 SOC team. You will be based part-time at our HO offices in Johannesburg and part-time remotely from 8 to 5, Monday through Friday. Candidates need to demonstrate intuitive problem-solving and investigation skills. Security Analysts work collaboratively to monitor and investigate security alerts and events, follow procedures for investigation and escalation, and interact with clients as needed.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

1. Actively monitor and investigate security alerts to detect malicious activity at our clients.
2. Perform Cyber Kill Chain and MITRE ATT&CK analysis on incoming security alerts.
3. Follow documented procedures to respond to and triage malicious activity through remediation or escalation. Provide clients with clear, concise feedback within the Numata Business IT service management system.
4. Communicate and collaborate with Numata Business IT departments and clients throughout security investigations.
5. Contribute to security operations across all clients via escalations and meetings.
6. Participate in internal meetings and team-building events for knowledge sharing.
7. Undertake regular training to stay updated on latest technologies and methodologies.
8. Stay informed about current vulnerabilities, threats, and attack trends globally.

Skills & Experience

Qualifications and Experience

• Matric
• 3-year diploma in IT or equivalent working experience (minimum 12 months)

Technical Skills

Knowledge

• Strong network knowledge and understanding of the 7 OSI layers

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Scripting skills in languages such as Python, Bash, and PowerShell
• Experience with Linux and Unix OS
