Job description

We are currently seeking a Legal Manager to oversee all legal aspects of our debt recovery processes, ensure compliance with relevant regulations, and optimize recovery processes.

This role involves leading a team, providing excellent service to clients, and collaborating with external legal resources to drive success in our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Achieving of Targets: Ensure the achievement of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual targets. Effectively manage a team of administration staff to ensure targets are consistently met or exceeded. Generate daily reports and statistics to monitor progress.
  2. Quality Control: Review and check Summonses and Judgments processed for accuracy. Ensure Summonses are dispatched to Court, Sheriff, and correspondent Attorneys in a timely manner. Maintain high company standards for legal processes. Conduct regular legal audits and instruct the relevant department as necessary. Request Judgment documents from clients and keep them informed of progress. Send email updates to clients on granted Judgments. Correspond with clients regarding defended matters. Resolve legal disputes and queries raised by clients efficiently. Attend client meetings as needed.
  3. Administration / Reports: Draft Summonses specific to clients' needs. Certify and return copies of original documents for Judgments to clients. Follow up on outstanding Judgments from Court. Prepare files for Trial, Section 65, or Warrant of Execution procedures. Prepare and submit annual Employment Equity reports. Attend quarterly Employment Equity meetings and ensure compliance. Manage Health and Safety compliance. Address ITC disputes from TransUnion. Handle Debt Review matters and other special projects.
  4. Legal Matters: Answer queries related to Judgments. Attend to defended matters and provide necessary follow-ups. Liaise with correspondent Attorneys as needed. Address legal disputes raised by debtors or their Attorneys. Ensure full compliance with all relevant legislation.

Candidate Requirements (Skills and Experience):

  1. Admitted as an Attorney and/or Advocate.
  2. 3 to 5 years' experience in the Legal field, preferably with experience in the Debt Collection Services sector.
  3. Excellent communication skills.
  4. Good interpersonal skills.
  5. Good problem-solving skills.
  6. Motivated and disciplined self-starter.
  7. Strong personality traits.
  8. Computer skills (Excel, Word, and Outlook).

Salary Type: Per Month Base Salary R23, an additional R10 is payable on the company achieving budgeted targets.
