About the Role

Our client, a major player in the Construction & Infrastructure sector based in Vereeniging , is seeking a diligent Legal Counsel . This role is integral to supporting the company's extensive project portfolio, providing expert legal advice on contracts, disputes, and regulatory matters. You will play a crucial role in advising project teams, managing claims, and ensuring compliance with all legal requirements throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction law and a pragmatic approach to problem-solving within a demanding industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, draft, and negotiate construction contracts, including EPC, FIDIC, and other standard forms.
• Advise on construction-related disputes, claims, and litigation management.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on project sites.
• Provide legal support for project financing, procurement, and tendering processes.
• Conduct legal risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for projects.
• Liaise with external counsel and relevant government authorities.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court with a minimum of 6 years of experience in construction or infrastructure law.
• Proven expertise in drafting and negotiating complex construction contracts.
• Strong understanding of dispute resolution mechanisms in the construction industry (e.g., adjudication, arbitration).
• Knowledge of relevant South African legislation governing construction and infrastructure.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively on-site and remotely as needed.
