Job description

Our client, specializing in the labour relations industry in the Johannesburg region, is seeking a Legal & Compliance Manager, who would fit in well with their dynamic team.

Reporting into the CEO on all matters.

Qualifications and Requirements
  1. Legal Management experience – minimum 5 Years
  2. Staff Management experience – non negotiable
  3. MS Office
  4. Experience working on SAP
  5. Post graduate qualification in Labour Relations or legal qualification
  6. Sound knowledge of collective bargaining
  7. Managerial Experience (ESSENTIAL)
  8. Willing to travel to regions – valid Driver's Licence
  9. Own reliable transport essential
Duties include the following, but not limited to:
  1. Provide legal interpretation and advice to the General Secretary and Bargaining Council Staff.
  2. Management of staff in various regions.
  3. Review and provide advice on legal documents.
  4. Monitor and review on-going cases and advise management accordingly.
  5. Represent the Council in arbitration or other proceedings as may be required by the General Secretary.
  6. Review progress of outstanding litigation and liaise with and manage engagement of external lawyers.
  7. Continuously monitor compliance with statutory obligations and advise management accordingly.
  8. Provide legal protection and risk management advice to management in relation to general compliance and in relation to contract management.
  9. Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate courses of action are taken.
  10. Disseminate legal information and requirements to staff and conduct training of staff.
  11. Review and advise management on legal implications of internal policies and procedures.
  12. Review and/or draft contracts, agreements, and internal policies and ensure that they are following all statutory or other legal requirements.
  13. Receive, review, and present exemptions applications and draft outcome letters.
  14. Formulate compliance checklists to be used for the purpose of ensuring that all information required is provided accordingly.
  15. Ensure implementation of relevant internal control measures.
  16. Day to day management of Designated Agents, setting of targets for the Designated Agents and ensuring all monthly plans are aligned to the strategic vision of the Council.
  17. Management of compliance order processes.
  18. Management of the Case Management function and ensuring that monthly plans are aligned to the strategic vision of the Bargaining council.
  19. Ensure all information is captured and updated on the SAP system.
  20. Develop strategic plans for the "legal team" and assist with the preparation of Budgets.
  21. Prepare and consolidate monthly reports from Agents for presentation to the General Secretary.
  22. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the department for executive management meetings.
  23. Provide continuous leadership, supervision, training, and development of case management staff and agents ensuring an effective and motivated team.
  24. Conducting performance appraisals and ensure competency and training gaps are registered.
  25. Develop an annual Skills Development Plan for the Designated Agents and Case Managers.
  26. General Office Management.
