Job description

Main purpose of the job

To provide internal legal advisory services on legal matters across all levels of the business and ensure contractual procedure compliance.

Location

Parktown - Johannesburg

Key performance areas
  1. Leading complex, cross-functional business units regarding contractual issues.
  2. Developing relationships across all levels of the business to ensure contractual procedure compliance.
  3. Ensuring the contractual process aligns with all business unit strategies.
  4. Reporting monthly to senior management on the contractual process.
  5. Ensuring business activities comply with applicable laws and donor requirements.
  6. Maintaining custody of legal documents as required.
  7. Providing legal advice on risk and potential liabilities to mitigate the company's exposure.
  8. Contributing to the establishment of legal guidelines for all commercial contracts.
  9. Ensuring proactive communication and building sound relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  10. Establishing credibility amongst stakeholders.
  11. Assisting divisions with queries as needed.
  12. Supporting ad hoc reporting tasks.
  13. Building professional relationships with all stakeholders.
Minimum education and training

LLB, BCom LLB, or BA LLB.

Minimum work experience

5-10 years post-admission experience in developing contracts in various sectors.

Desirable additional qualifications and skills
  • Excellent command of English (both written and oral).
  • Proven experience in drafting, reviewing, and editing agreements and contracts.
  • Familiarity with local and international laws and regulations, especially company laws.
  • Experience working in a donor-funded organization or NGO is advantageous.
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels.
  • Adaptability and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Understanding of tax laws and problem-solving skills.
  • Meticulous with attention to detail.
  • High customer service orientation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
