About the Role

Our client, a prominent maritime services provider, is seeking a dedicated Legal Advisor with expertise in Maritime and Shipping Law. This is an on-site position based in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, ZA . The role requires advising on a broad spectrum of legal issues related to shipping operations, charter parties, cargo claims, vessel financing, and maritime insurance. You will work closely with the operations and management teams to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risks within the complex maritime industry. Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of maritime and shipping law, including admiralty, salvage, towage, and collisions.
• Draft, review, and negotiate charter parties, bills of lading, and other shipping-related contracts.
• Manage and advise on cargo claims, demurrage, and freight disputes.
• Handle marine insurance matters, including hull and machinery, P&I, and H&M claims.
• Ensure compliance with international maritime conventions (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL) and national legislation.
• Represent the company in negotiations and dispute resolution proceedings.
• Conduct legal research and provide guidance on regulatory changes impacting the shipping industry.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with at least 5 years of experience specializing in Maritime and Shipping Law.
