Homechoice is looking for an experienced admitted attorney with contract drafting, corporate governance, and consumer law experience, who is passionate about working with business stakeholders, detail-oriented, and able to see the bigger picture.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drafting, reviewing, and amending contracts such as service & supply agreements, settlement agreements, logistics & transport provider agreements, employment & independent contractor agreements, and operational agreements. This involves collaborating with stakeholders to understand goals, analyze agreements, and mitigate risks.
- Applying knowledge of applicable legislation including the National Credit Act, Consumer Protection Act, Protection of Personal Information Act, Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, Financial Intelligence Centre Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Employment Equity Act, and Labour Relations Act.
- Advising on and drafting business policies related to conduct, ethics, employment, and standard operating procedures.
- Providing legal support and advice to departments such as procurement, supply chain, merchandise, HR, IT, marketing, and operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Staying updated on industry trends, regulatory updates, and legal developments relevant to credit, insurance, retail, and operations in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho, and Eswatini.
- Preparing legal opinions and memorandums, and presenting these to key stakeholders.
- Drafting and managing legal correspondence, including letters of demand and responses to regulatory bodies.
- Managing litigation portfolios within budget constraints.
- Overseeing intellectual property portfolios, ensuring timely renewals of trademarks and patents, and registering new IP rights.
- Maintaining a contract register to monitor contract expiry dates in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Participating in ad hoc projects related to regulatory changes and business needs.
