The unitalentza website was launched out of necessity. It is a direct off-shoot of Academic Partners , the pre-eminent talent accessing and assessing service company within the South African Higher Education sector. A company that started 44 years ago in the commercial sector, but which in the last 26 years, has focused almost exclusively in the HE sector. Having founded the company, Jimmy Wayland took retirement in May 2022, but as a swansong objective, he undertook to develop Unitalentza website to uphold the same values, levels of confidentiality, trust and reliability as the founding company. Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Futures Studies

Ref. EBW04/163/0725

Stellenbosch Business School (SBS) at Stellenbosch University (SU) is Triple Crown accredited (AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA) — a distinction held by less than 1% of all business schools. SBS is thus internationally recognised for academic excellence, values-based leadership, and contextual relevance in both the African and international business environments. We are now welcoming applications from suitably qualified candidates in the field of Future Studies.

The Role:

SBS wants to continue to provide inspiring teaching, research and thought leadership that is business relevant. The appointed candidate will work in close proximity to the existing Institute for Futures Research (IFR) and expect to align with the institute’s projects and research outputs.

Job Description

Duties:

  • Delivering or teaching assigned futures studies and related modules across SBS postgraduate programmes and executive short courses.
  • Collaborating with staff to create and deliver a transformative learning experience for students in futures studies and generally.
  • Publishing and disseminating research in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals, high-impact books, and cases.
  • Promoting SBS’s social impact through teaching, research, media and client work.
  • Actively contributing to the activities of the Institute for Futures Research.
  • Actively engaging and participating in the activities of Stellenbosch University and Stellenbosch Business School life.
Inherent Criteria

Requirements:

For appointment as a lecturer:

  • An appropriate master’s degree awarded by a recognised university.
  • Quantitative and qualitative evidence of teaching experience, especially teaching and learning contributions on modular level, or demonstrated potential to achieve success in teaching.
  • Evidence of early exposure to research activities (including conference participation) or evaluated commitment to research or relevant experience and engagement with public or private organisations, consulting activities, and/or policy that demonstrate management, leadership, expertise and/or thought leadership.
  • Good organisational and personal management skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to creating impact through research and scholarship.

Recommendations:

The following scarce credentials would enhance the profile of applicants:

  • PhD in the field of futures studies awarded by a recognised university.
  • Leadership or management experience in a futures consulting environment.
  • Experience of having produced consulting reports in the field of futures.
  • International experience or networks in the futures field.
  • Prior work with, or exposure to, the workings of a business school of international repute.
Application Requirement

Commencement of duties:

01 October 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter

08 August 2025
